You don’t have to be a professional photographer to take professional looking pictures of your loose-skinned Shar Pei. You could use an expensive camera, but an inexpensive disposable camera, digital camera or camera phone is even better because it gives you the option of deleting your bad shots instead of paying to have them processed and printed. Use a digital camera if possible. Digital pictures also give you instant gratification, and digital cameras are greener (more environmentally friendly) than disposable cameras.
Taking Shar Pei pictures can be somewhat problematic. If you are trying to create a pet portrait, you have to get the dog to sit still and pose. You need to deal with lighting and backdrop issues, and you need to be sure you’re shooting at the right level. Never fear, though. With these five great tips for taking Shar Pei pictures, you’ll soon be taking fabulous pictures of your Shar Pei.
Tip one is to do your homework. Be prepared. Get everything you need together in one place before you even think of getting your dog involved. Put an empty, high-capacity memory card in your camera, put in fresh batteries and have a supply of fresh back-up batteries on hand. Decide whether to take your Shar Pei pictures indoors or outdoors or both. If you choose an indoor setting, make sure there is enough lighting, and set up any backdrops or props you will need. If you photograph your dog outdoors, secure the area for your pet’s safety.
Tip two is to get a friend to help you. Taking dog pictures is fun, and it shouldn’t be hard to find someone who likes your dog who is willing to help you. Once you pick up the camera, you need an extra person on site to help pose your dog, brush its hair, keep it looking alert, feed it treats, and assist while you take the pictures. Place one brightly colored object with a simple design near your dog, grab your camera and wait for the perfect shot.
Tip five is to get down to your dog’s eye level. The best dog pictures are taken at eye level with the dog. If you can, sit on the floor with your Shar Pei and take pictures. If you’ve been taking pictures of your dog while standing up, you’ll be amazed at the difference.
